Summary:

  • To perform, under the responsibility and supervision of the surgeon, diagnostic and therapeutic tasks to allow the physician to extend his services through the more effective use of his knowledge in the sphere of decision-making required to establish diagnosis and to plan therapy. He/she may assist in the gathering of data necessary in implementing the therapeutic plan of the surgeon. A major role will be as a patient advocate in the medical care system serving as a confidant, advisor and liaison between patients and physicians.

Responsibilities:

  • A. Assists the surgeon in the preoperative care and work up of patients. Provide clinical services commensurate with state license limitations and practice needs 1. Ability to work as a physician extender in the office setting. 2. Ability to set priorities among multiple requests 3. Ability to interact with patients, their families, medical staff, administrative staff, and the public effectively B. Assists the surgeon in office procedures. Obtain, compile and record patient medical data C. Obtain history and perform physical assessment D. Collaborate with physicians and implement the prescribed appropriate medical care for the patients E. Perform skilled services as needed for hospital patients including, but not limited to: 1. Record H&P's and Discharge Summaries 2. Write admission orders and order appropriate testing 3. Prescribe medication F. See patients in the outpatient setting Participates in postoperative care of patients, being especially knowledgeable in the recognition of postoperative complications. Perform skilled services as needed for outpatient visits including, but not limited to: 1. Prescribe medication 2. Postop follow-ups 3. Collect data/notes and record within EHR G. Order, collect and interpret laboratory and diagnostic studies as follows: 1. Laboratory and diagnostic studies may be ordered as appropriate in accordance with clinical guidelines/pathways and standards of practice. 2. Complex and/or invasive studies are ordered/obtained utilizing physician consultation as appropriate. H. Performs therapeutic procedures and assignments as directed by the surgeon and as indicated by his/her training and experience. Prescribe therapy or medications with physician approval I. All other clinical procedures/duties as approved and required

Credentials:

  • Registered Nurse - PA (Required)
  • Certified Nurse PractitionerPA (Required)

Education or Equivalent Experience:

  • Master of Science Nursing (Required)
  • Must have 5 years or more in Urology/UroGynecology
