PHYSICAL THERAPIST (PRN)

JOB TITLE: Physical Therapist

DEPARTMENT: Rehabilitation Services

REPORTS TO: Rehabilitation Services Director

JOB SUMMARY

The Physical Therapist must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served on his/her assigned unit. The individual must demonstrate the principles of growth and development over the life span and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to his/her age specific needs, and to provide the care needed as described in the department's policies and procedures.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

Current WY licensure or ability to obtain as a physical therapist

EXPERIENCE

Two years PT experience preferred. New graduates will also be considered.

SKILLS

Ability to perform the essential functions of this position with or without reasonable accommodations and without posing a direct threat to the health and safety of self or others. Ability to comply with all Cody Regional Health procedures that are job related and consistent with business necessity. Ability to effectively communicate with patients and provide competent care as appropriate to the ages of the patients served by this position. Ability to understand medical terminology applicable to communication and record keeping.

REQUIRED CERTIFICATIONS

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Complete initial patient evaluations
    • Assure presence of physician order in medical record.
    • Complete evaluation per physician order, including recommended treatments, making changes with physician approval.
    • Performance and documentation of initial evaluation within established departmental guidelines for timeliness.
    • Obtain thorough patient history through subjective interview and review of available objective information.
    • Design a specific plan of care following determination of patient needs and revises as appropriate through ongoing assessment during treatment of patient or with reports of progress from physical therapy assistant.
    • Formulate short term/long term goals based on results of evaluation, complete with time frames.
  • Patient Treatment
    • Communicate treatment plan clearly and effectively to physical therapy assistant.
    • Treatment procedures follow established departmental policies and procedures, physician orders, and established plan of care.
    • Pertinent objective and subjective information regarding treatment is documented.
    • Documentation is completed per hospital and departmental policies and procedures and reimbursement guidelines.
    • Responsible for care of equipment; economic use of supplies, linens and utilities and cleanliness of department equipment used in the treatment of patient.
    • Charges are accurately prepared, based on treatment provided.
  • Supervision of support staff and physical therapy assistant
    • Notify others of changes in patient's schedule or condition.
    • Instruct staff in delegated tasks.
    • Provide appropriate feedback to staff regarding performance.
    • Delegate tasks to support staff and physical therapy assistant based on State Practice Guidelines.
  • Communicate verbally and written with other hospital employees, physicians, patients/families, and other agencies.
    • Physician progress notes completed accurately and in a timely manner.
    • Contacts appropriate staff based on change of patient condition.
    • Patient and family education is thorough and timely, with a written program provided as necessary.
  • Participate in care conference and in-services
    • Attend as assigned per Director.
    • Present information in and organized and fluent manner.
    • Has established goals for patient and/or presentation of information.
  • Enhance job function through personal and professional development
    • Demonstrate activity to impact change within department and within other systems involved in job function.
    • Seek professional development to benefit department and personal/professional growth.
    • Stay current on new trends and developments in physical therapy by survey of literature.
    • Present to others in the department, information learned during continuing education and self-study.
  • Follow policies and procedures at Cody Regional Health.
    • Maintain confidentiality, upholds patient rights and freedoms.
    • Attend and contributes as appropriate to mandatory education, departmental staff meetings, continuing education and other in-services.
    • Know and follow policies relating to infection control.
    • Conform to all other policies and procedures of the facility.
  • Hospice Services
    • Therapy Services will provide education and training to hospice patients, families and staff within the scope of practice for the greater palliation and management of hospice patients and families that Spirit Mountain Hospice serves. Therapy services (PT, OT, and SLP) will be available on after hours and weekends to assist the hospice team, if needed, to provide for the greater comfort and safety of the patient and caregivers.
