Physical Therapy Assistant

POSITION SUMMARY

This position provides therapy services to patients of all ages, including individualized interventions, education, treatment planning (in conjunction with supervising PT), and consultation to improve patients' abilities to their highest possible level. This position provides services as part of a care team committed to optimal clinical outcomes, under the direction of the referring physician and supervising PT. As a casual PTA, weekend (Sat) shift needed a minimum of once a month to assist with coverage for inpatients on Med-Surg unit.

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience

AA degree from Accredited Physical Therapy Assistant Program.
Physical Therapy Assistant license to practice in the State of Minnesota.
BLS/CPR certification.

License/Certificates

Physical Therapy license to practice in the State of Minnesota.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provides treatments to meet individual's needs (physical, cultural and psychosocial) per plan of care established by the supervising physical therapist.
  • Follows and contributes to the patient's plan of care as indicated by patient diagnosis, physical and cognitive status, functional goals/outcomes, and discharge plan.
  • Patient/Family education: provides patient, family and caregiver education, identifies learning needs, clearly communicates information, and documents response to education provided.
  • Completes daily documentation and billing according to current standards and policies.
  • Adheres to hospital Joint Commission, Department of Health, and Medicare Standards.
  • Discharge Planning: anticipates long term and short-term patient needs, collaborates with interdisciplinary team and supervising physical therapist, and communicates patient progress prior to discharge as needed.
