Physician Assistant
Job Responsibilities
- Perform preoperative assessments and support patient optimization.
- Participate in postoperative management, follow-up, and care coordination.
- Assist with consultative support and continuity of care planning.
- Provide patient and family education related to procedures and recovery.
- Order, review, and interpret diagnostic tests, treatments, and medications within scope.
- Support operating room throughput and patient flow optimization.
- Assist with urgent and emergent add-on coordination.
- Collaborate with surgeons, anesthesia, nursing, PAT, sterile processing, and scheduling teams to remove barriers to efficient case progression.
- Assist in day-of-surgery issue escalation and operational problem solving.
- Perform first assist duties consistent with privileges and regulatory requirements.
- Provide intraoperative assistance, tissue handling, retraction, suturing, wound closure, and related support.
- Assist with development and standardization of clinical pathways and perioperative protocol
- Complete timely, accurate clinical documentation in the electronic health record.
Education Requirements
- Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant program.
Experience Requirements
- Surgical services or perioperative experience preferred.
- First assist experience preferred.
- Experience supporting operative services operations, throughput, or quality initiatives preferred.
License/Certification Requirements
- Current Physician Assistant-Certified (PA-C) credential
- Controlled Substances Registration license in the state of Indiana
- Basic Life Safety (American Heart Association)
- ACLS (American Heart Association)
