Physician Assistant

The main job of a Physician Assistant is to support the physical and mental health of their patients by working closely with them and their families. Some of their common duties and responsibilities include:

  • Greeting patients and gathering information about their medical history and current symptoms
  • Performing physical exams to make correct diagnoses
  • Working with Physicians and Nurses to prescribe and administer treatments
  • Ordering diagnostic testing, such as bloodwork and imaging tests
  • Monitoring patient progress and making adjustments to treatment plans as needed
  • Instructing patients and their families about lifestyle changes and self-care techniques that complement treatment plans
  • Maintaining accurate patient records
  • Referring patients to specialists as needed

Requirements

Qualifications: Delaware mandates that PAs complete a degree from a program accredited by the Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant (ARC-PA). The state does not recognize degrees from non-accredited institutions, making it essential for students to verify accreditation before enrollment. Graduate of an accredited PA program and pass the NCCPA certification exam. Must have a bachelor's degree in physician assistant studies or a related field.

Maintenance of NCCPA certification will meet the CME requirement for renewal of licensure ,

for writing of prescriptions: PA number required on prescriptions, Federal DEA number to write for controlled substances and State Controlled Substance number
