Polysomnography Tech RPSGT
Purpose of Job Conduct all aspects of sleep diagnostic testing. Job Requirements Education High School Diploma or General Educational Development (G. E. D) required Experience 3 to 6 months experience in sleep testing is preferred. License/Certifications Registered Polysomnographic Tech (RPSGT) required at the time of hire or within 12 months of hire if currently a Certified Respiratory Therapist (CRT) or Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT). Current American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification required. Polysomnographic Technologist (PSGT) license by the State of Iowa required. Skills/Knowledge/Abilities Good understanding of all aspects of sleep diagnostic testing. Ability to perform multiple sleep latency testing (MSLT), maintenance of wakefulness testing (MWT), and scoring polysomnograms. Responds quickly to patients and/or other peoples needs. Know and demonstrates 6 step customer complaint management process. Gather and Analyze Patient Information. Collects, analyzes and integrates patient information in order to identify and meet patient specific needs (Physical/mental limitations, current emotional/physiological status regarding the testing procedures, pertinent medical/social history), and to determine final testing parameters/procedures in conjunction with the ordering physician or clinical director and laboratory protocols. Completes and verifies documentation. Explains pre-testing, testing, and post testing procedures to the patient. Prepares and calibrates equipment for testing. Determine proper functioning and make adjustments, if necessary, to equipment. Applies electrodes and sensors according to accepted published standards. Performs appropriate physiologic calibrations to ensure proper signals and make adjustments if necessary. Performs positive airway pressure (PAP) mask fitting. Polysomnopgrahic procedures. Follows procedural protocols such as MSLT, MWT, Parasomnia studies, positive Airway pressure, oxygen titration. Performs data acquisition while monitoring. Documents Routine observations including sleep stages and clinical events, changes in procedure and significant events in order to facilitate scoring. Polysomnopgraphic record scoring. Scores sleep/wake stages according to guidelines. Scores clinical events according to protocols. Generates accurate reports for physician review. Polysomnopgraphic physician review. Facilitates communication to pulmnologists for interpretation. Maintains supply inventory. Maintains supply orders as needed. Essential Functions II Participates in mandatory in-services and/or CE programs as mandated by policies and procedures/external agencies and as directed by management.
