Postdoctoral Research Fellow - Quantitative Biosciences

Job Description

Be a part of the legacy: Postdoctoral Research Fellow Program

Our Research Laboratories' Postdoctoral Research Fellow Program aims to be a best-in-industry program for industrial postdoctoral researchers, designed to provide you with an academic focus in a commercial environment. With the resources, reach, and expertise of a large pharmaceutical company, postdoctoral researchers will be positioned to excel in an institution committed to breakthrough innovation in research and discovery.

The Quantitative Biosciences group within our company's Research Labs at West Point is seeking a Postdoctoral Research Fellow interested in developing novel next-generation sequencing strategies for high-throughput characterization of non-coding RNAs. In this role, you will drive the development, validation, and application of innovative molecular biology, automation, and data analysis workflows to deliver a unique capability with the opportunity to impact our understanding of the complexity of disease-states, perturbagen signatures, and biomarker strategies. The postdoctoral fellow will have the opportunity to collaborate with a diverse network of experts in genomics, data science, pharmacology, assay automation, and disease area biology to enable a productive and enriching training experience.

Responsibilities:

  • Design and implementation of innovative techniques to enable the development of an input-agnostic technology to quantitatively profile the expression of non-coding RNAs (e.g., microRNA) at-scale.
  • Validation and benchmarking of new high-throughput technology through comparison to traditional sequencing technologies across simple and complex biological inputs
  • In collaboration with our Research & Development Division data scientists, develop custom bioinformatic and data analysis processes to enable data flow and analysis for the new technology.
  • Application of the profiling technique to answer novel biological questions across therapeutic areas.
  • Maintain compliance with laboratory trainings, EHS safety requirements, and Electronic Lab Notebooks (ELNs)
  • Generation and submission of manuscripts for publication in peer-reviewed journals
  • Presentation of technology development and applications at internal meetings and external scientific conferences

Qualifications:

Education Minimum Requirement:

Candidates must hold a Ph.D. in genetics/genomics, molecular biology, cell biology, chemical biology, biochemistry, pharmacology, bioinformatics, or a related field or will you have completed your PhD within the next year.

Required Experience and Skills:

  • Experience and proficiency in molecular biology techniques related to RNA isolation & modification, cDNA library construction, and next-generation sequencing workflows.
  • Ability to execute aseptic mammalian cell culture techniques necessary to support biological sample generation.
  • Exceptional analytical skills with the ability to synthesize scientific conclusions and biological interpretations of large and complex datasets to enable data-driven decision-making.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work both independently as well as collaboratively with cross-functional teams.
  • Demonstrated record of publication in peer-reviewed journals
  • Reliable self-starter with a passion for discovery and enthusiasm for taking on new challenges.

Preferred Experience and Skills:

  • Expertise in the biological function and characterization of non-coding RNAs and their role in disease association
  • Knowledge and/or direct experience with data science and bioinformatic approaches commonly used in NGS data analysis and genomics (Python, R, or similar languages)
  • Experience with automated liquid handling instrumentation and platforms.
