Preanesthesia Assessment & Testing Nurse Practitioner - Marshall Orthopaedics at St. Mary's Medical Center
Job Responsibilities:
- Performs evaluation of patients before scheduled elective procedures requiring anesthesia.
- Assesses patients through a complete review of health history, medications or test results.
- Orders appropriate preoperative testing.
- Provides preoperative education.
- Analyses test results and consults with other healthcare providers as needed to optimize postoperative outcomes.
- Directs the coordination of care across settings and among caregivers, including oversight of licensed and unlicensed personnel in any assigned or delegated tasks.
- Facilitates all phases of pre-operative evaluation, serving as a liaison between patients, physicians, and the hospital in transitioning the patient through the health care system.
- Develops an individualized plan considering patient characteristics or the situation (e.g. age and culturally appropriate, environmentally sensitive).
- Uses ongoing assessment data to revise the diagnoses, outcomes, the plan, and the implementation as needed.
- Assists in identifying and implementing strategies to improve patient satisfaction.
- Validates and documents diagnoses or issues in a manner that facilitates the determination of the expected outcomes and plan of care.
- Assists the patient and family in identifying and securing appropriate and available services to address health-related needs.
- Performs other duties as assigned or requested.
EDUCATION: Graduate of an accredited school of nursing required. Successful
completion of an approved Nurse Practitioner program required.
EXPERIENCE: 1-2 year of related experience required. 2-5 years of experience preferred.
