Housing 2,181 adult male inmates in maximum, medium, and minimum custody levels, with 400 beds devoted to the Hunt Reception and Diagnostic Center (HRDC), EHCC is the second largest state prison. EHCC is also the Acute Medical and Mental Health Facility for the Department. EHCC provides inmates with acute, chronic, and terminal illness treatment at an in-house medical facility. Additionally, inmates with chronic and acute mental health needs receive inpatient treatment at the Hunt Special Unit (HSU). The EHCC Pharmacy is a central-fill pharmacy responsible for providing medication to inmates at EHCC and HRDC in addition to four other state facilities.
Job Duties:

  • Incumbent is responsible for participating in the management of the Psychiatric Mental Health Program. Responsible for ensuring compliance with requirements set forth by American Correctional Association performance-based standards and outcome measures relative to mental health care.


  • Will work closely with the Mental Health Team to facilitate and administer all components of this program to inmates, including the preventive and mental health maintenance education components. Reviews accessible literature regarding the current standards of care for various mental health illnesses. Coordinates and conducts health education/counseling activities and self-care aspects of the program with the mental health department.


  • Compiles data for quarterly and annual studies using flow sheets, chart reviews, and other logs and records to analyze the status of the programs for treatment of the monitored mental health illnesses. This information is submitted to the Director of Medical Services at least once quarterly.


  • Will work closely with other members of the mental health care team to conduct regularly scheduled clinics for inmate assessment, monitoring, and treatment, as well as follow-up appointments to evaluate the inmates and ensure that the established and accepted guidelines are being followed. Performs other duties as assigned.


Minimum Qualifications

  • Possession of an unencumbered advanced practice registered nurse (APRN) license in the state of Louisiana.


Other Important Information:

  • This position will be filled as an Unclassified Full-Time Position
  • Rotates on the on-call schedule with other mental health care providers, with a physician on backup call at all times.
  • Reports directly to the Psychiatrist
