GENERAL:

POSITION SUMMARY: Provides direct and indirect patient care in the medical-surgical, emergency, perinatal and nursery, ambulatory and surgical settings. Communicates with physicians/providers/Director of Nursing/co-workers as appropriate about changes in patient's clinical condition including results of diagnostic studies and symptomology. Is able to respond quickly and accurately to changes in condition or response to treatment. Additionally, is able to perform general nursing duties in all departments with adequate supervision.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES - MED/SURG
- Provide patient care and assist with patient's ADL's in a competent and caring manner to all patients. This may include: newborns, pediatrics, adolescents, adults and the elderly
- Provide patient teaching in all areas of responsibility in a timely manner
- Order entry, assure physicians orders are carried out in an appropriate and timely manner
- Maintain current nursing care plans/nursing diagnoses documentation appropriate to assigned area
- Complete and update, timely and accurate assessments on all patients under his/her care within 1 hours of admission
- Demonstrates ability to delegate tasks according to competency level
- Stays updated on nursing policies and procedures
- Pharmacy entry/medication reconciliation, administration of all medications (I.V., PO, SQ, etc.) and biologicals in accordance to State Law
- Demonstrates knowledge of cardiac monitoring, identifies dysrhythmias and reports and/or treats appropriately
- Planned and emergency admission, discharge and transfer of a patient
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES-PERINATAL AND NURSERY
- Ensures OB patient rooms and nursery are stocked and ready for use
- Ability to perform assessments, care plans and ongoing care for antepartum, intrapartum, postpartum and newborn patients
- Ability to assist with the management of obstetric and newborn emergencies per policy, AWHONN, STABLE and NRP guidelines
- Ability to assist with maternal and newborn procedures i.e. epidural placement, circumcision, etc.
- Fetal heart monitoring documentation per policy and AWHONN guidelines
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES-EMERGENCY
- Has a working knowledge of EMTALA guidelines for Critical Access Hospitals
- Uses ESI 5 Level Triage process to ensure timely and appropriate care to patients across the life span
- Ability to perform assessments and re-assessments per policy on patients across the life span
- Ability to perform emergency treatment per policy and ACLS/ENPC guidelines
- Maintains accurate and continued nursing documentation including patient history, medication reconciliation, interventions and responses
- Ability to communicate with ED providers regarding initial assessment, changes in patient's status and results of diagnostic studies
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES-PERIOPERATIVE SERVICES
- Able to establish the patients expected outcomes based on nursing diagnosis and implement patient care interventions according to plan of care. Evaluate the attainment of expected outcomes and effectiveness of patient care. Participate in patient and family teaching
- Calls patients day before surgery to confirm appointment and with specific instructions for NPO status, prep completion and where to report. Provide patient education in all areas of responsibility. Able to function and participate in PAT process.
- Prepares patient for surgery and outpatient procedures as directed by physician's orders and administering nursing care to patients pre/intra/post procedure. Prepare the patients for discharge post procedure, including follow-up care or referral.
- Able to perform minor procedures dealing with aseptic techniques. Organizes and pulls cases according to preference cards. Provide equipment and supplies based on patient needs. Performs sponge, sharps and instrument counts according to policy and procedure.
- Assists with responsibilities in OR, PACU, Endoscopy and Ambulatory. Prepares specimens for mail out according to HSCHD policy and procedure. Functions appropriately in trauma situations, understands the role.
- Physiologically monitor patient during procedure and throughout the perioperative experience.
- Prepare charts accurately. Documents nursing care in a timely and accurate manner. Stocks and orders supplies.
- Plans, supports and coordinates activities and resources to assure pain in all patients is recognized and addressed appropriately. Serves as a patient advocate.
- Administration of all medications (I.V., PO, SQ, etc.) and biologicals in accordance to State Law. Remain current on conscious sedation procedures and able to function in this role under direct supervision of a physician or CRNA.
- Chemo/Bio infusion specific nurses demonstrate ability to provide appropriate therapy and maintain appropriate certification and credentials.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES-SURGICAL SERVICES
- Able to establish the patients expected outcomes based on nursing diagnosis and implement patient care interventions according to plan of care. Evaluate the attainment of expected outcomes and effectiveness of patient care. Participate in patient and family teaching.
- Perform pre-op and post op calls/visits with patient.
- Creates a sterile field with the ability to monitor and control the environment.
- Able to function and participate in PAT process as well as assist in ambulatory where needed.
- Prepares specimens for mail out according to HSCHD policy and procedure.
- Is able to functions in PACU area according to policy and procedure. Functions appropriately in trauma situations, understands the role.
- Current on conscious sedation procedures and able to function in this role under direct supervision of a physician or CRNA.
- Administration of all medications (I.V., PO, SQ, etc.) and biologicals in accordance to State Law. Maintain current on conscious sedation procedures and able to function in this role under direct supervision of a physician or CRNA.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:
- BLS, ACLS (obtain ACLS within 3 months of hire)
- ENPC and/or PALS (within 6 months of hire)
- NRP (within 6 months of hire)
- Introduction to Fetal Heart Monitoring (within three months of hire)
- Intermediate Fetal Monitoring (within one year of hire)
- Advanced Fetal Monitoring (not required but recommended)
- STABLE (within one year of hire)
- AWHONN POEP, MFTI, OB Triage Modules (within one year of hire)
- TNCC (preferred within one year of hire)
- ABLS (preferred within one year of hire)

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
The Registered Nurse shall:
1. Current Wyoming Registered Nurse license in good standing
2. Previous experience working in a medical or health care facility preferred but not required
3. Must possess communication skills to relate to the public in person
4. Demonstrate good organizational abilities
5. Seeks proficiencies in computer applications, e.g. word processing, spread sheets, database, presentation, and project publication.
LANGUAGE SKILLS:
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret appropriate journals, financial reports, and legal documents. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community. Ability to write policies and procedures that conform to prescribed style and format. Ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and is knowledgeable in metric and apothecary.
REASONING ABILITY:
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. Ability to modify care based on the developmental / functional age of the patient as well as that of the patient's ethnic background.
OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Ability to interact with patients, families, visitors and co-workers. Ability to interact assertively and tactfully when dealing with conflict and in group solving activities. Ability to demonstrate a professional, open minded approach in identifying problems and resolving problems/conflicts.
AGE SPECIFIC:
Must be able to provide care according to the developmental level and or chronological patient served. This includes, but is not limited to, identifying the needs and abilities of each patient, and demonstrating an understanding of how a patient's chronological and developmental age influences his/her need for adaptations related to his/her abilities. Also, an understanding of how a patient's age impacts his/her ability to deal with and adapt to the care needed/provided is required. General census of neonatal to geriatric patients.
