Registered Nurse (RN), Labor & Delivery
Job overview:
Organize and administers individualized age specific professional care to patients within an assigned unit of the hospital in support of medical care. Supports philosophy, objectives and the mission and vision of Saint Barnabas Medical Center and the Department of Nursing. Practices in accordance with the State Nurse Practice Act, American Nurses Association Standards of Practice, Code of Ethics for Nurses, Department of Health Regulations, TJC requirements and other regulatory agencies. Participates in patient teaching and discharge planning. Participates in Unit Performance Improvement evaluation activities.
Qualifications:
Required:
- Must be a graduate from an accredited school of nursing
- Completion of all Orientation requirements of Cooperman Barnabas Medical Center
- Successful completion of all orientation programs
Preferred:
- Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing or currently matriculating
Certifications and Licenses Required:
- Current Registered Nurse License in the state of New Jersey
- Basic Life Support (BLS) from the American Heart Association
- ACLS or must obtain within 6 months of hire from the American Heart Association
- NRP or must obtain within 6 months of hire from the American Heart Association
Scheduling Requirements:
- Full-Time
- Evening/Night shift
- 3 shifts per week
- 12.5 hr. shifts
- 37.5 hrs. weekly
- 6:30p - 7:30a
Essential Functions:
Assess, stabilizes and observes infant in the delivery room. Weighs infant and gives medication after vaginal delivery. Promotes skin to skin maternal infant bonding and supports breastfeeding in the LDR. Demonstrates an ability to effectively interpret fetal monitor tracings and takes appropriate nursing action. Recognizes significant labor events and handles emergent situations well, using good critical thinking and good nursing judgment. Demonstrates the ability to triage patients in the PET unit by assessing, prioritizing and managing patients effectively. Performs the role of the circulating nurse for vaginal and C/S deliveries and scrubs for C/S deliveries when necessary. Recognizes each individual couple's birth plan and supports the same within the boundaries of the standard of care.
