Position Summary
Under the general supervision of the facility medical director, provides quality and comprehensive diagnostic services in Sleep Medicine. Includes evaluating sleep disorders through both in lab and home sleep apnea testing, diagnostic and therapeutic interventions, comprehensive care, and direct patient education.
Responsibilities
• Performs diagnostic testing for sleep disorders including baseline diagnostic polysomnograms (PSG), positive airway pressure titrations (CPAP, Bi-level PAP, AVAPs, ASV), multiple sleep latency (MSLT), titration of oral devices for OSA, and supplemental oxygen titration
• Participates in performance improvement activities, design to evaluate and improve services, and ensure compliance with the American Academy of Sleep Medicine's facility standards
• Ensures the health, comfort, and safety of patients
• Collects and transports biological specimens for analysis
• Provides direction and serves as a clinical reference for trainees, overseeing work and providing guidance/correction as needed
• Performs other related duties as assigned
• Maintains regular and predictable attendance
• Familiar with standard concepts, practices, and procedures within the field
• Relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals
• Competent to meet age specific needs of the unit
Requirements and Minimum Qualifications
• Registration by the National Board of Respiratory Care (ABSM) as a Sleep Disorder Specialist (RRT-SDS) or Registration by the American Board of Sleep Medicine (ABSM) as a Registered Sleep Technologist (RST) or Registered by the Board of Registered Polysomnographic Technologists (BRPT) as a RPSGT required
• State of Idaho licensure as a Polysomnographic Technologist or Respiratory Therapist required
• Completion of 10 CEC continuing education credits annually
• BLS required
Working Conditions
• Must be able to assist in patient transfer
• Must be able to maintain a standing and/or sitting position
• Must be able to stoop, crouch or bend
• Must be able to reach arms above or below shoulder height
• Typical equipment used in a clinical job
• Must be able to lift/move up to 35 lbs
• Exposure to blood and body fluids, etc.
