Research Associate II, HIV Vaccine

Vir Bio is seeking a highly motivated Research Associate to help drive new efforts in the discovery and development of novel vaccines against HIV. Individual will work within a highly collaborative group focused on infectious disease research. The successful candidate, under the guidance of experienced Scientists in the company, will participate in discovery and translational research efforts aimed at designing and characterizing novel HIV vaccines in vitro and in the appropriate in vivo animal models. You will work cross-functionally and be exposed to other groups within the company to advance programs from discovery into development.

Responsibilities

    • Work under supervision of scientists to conduct scientific research for the development of novel HIV vaccines.
    • Design and execute laboratory experiments utilizing expertise in virology, molecular biology, cell biology, immunology, and more.
    • Apply knowledge of scientific methods, both quantitative and/or qualitative, to interpret experimental data and determine follow-up experiments.
    • Plan and carry out day-to-day activities while keeping accurate records of experimental details and results
    • Co-author protocols and technical reports.
    • Participate in team meetings, updating the status of projects by giving oral updates or internal presentations.




Qualifications And Experience

    • Highly knowledgeable in cell culture methodology and aseptic technique.
    • Strong background and hands-on experience in virology, cell biology & molecular biology.
    • Ideally, experienced in virology-related methodology, such as pseudotype virus production, purification, and reporter cell-based neutralization assay.
    • Hands on experience with HIV vaccine development is a plus.
    • This position is not required to work on live HIV virus.
    • Proficient in cell and molecular biology methods including cell culture, molecular cloning, Western Blot, ELISA, fluorescence microscopy, flow cytometry and more.
    • Ability to work in a high paced team environment, meet deadlines, and prioritize work.
    • Strong written and verbal communication skills, and ability to work on inter-disciplinary and cross-functional teams.
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications is required.



Education

    • BS/MS in microbiology, molecular and cell biology, biochemistry or a related field and a minimum of 2 years of lab experience.
