Residential Clinic Nurse - Part-Time Weekends
Job Description
At Community & Family Resources, we are committed to enhancing the quality of life for patients seeking substance use disorder treatment through accessible behavioral health services and by believing in the possibilities of change for all we serve. The primary focus of the Clinic Nurse will be to support the delivery of patient care by assisting the medical provider with providing care to our adult patients with substance abuse disorders.
Schedule
- Part Time
- Saturday & Sunday, 8 AM - 12 PM. Potential to alternate weekends if two candidates are selected for this position.
Experience and Training
- Licensed to practice professional nursing in Iowa. Minimum of LPN or CMA required. RN strongly preferred.
- Two years of previous experience required, preferably in mental health or substance use related field.
- Bilingual in English/Spanish preferred, but not required.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Maintains appropriate administrative and clinical records according to the standards outlined in the agencys policies and procedures.
- Recognizes early symptoms of physical and mental illness and performs appropriate interventions and/or referrals.
- Completes/assists with intake process on all admissions into the residential treatment program.
- Upon admission of a client, responsible for obtaining and sending releases of information to other treatment facilities, mental health units, doctors, hospitals and/or other referral sources to gather pertinent information regarding client for counseling staff.
- Reviews individual care plans for each patient in residential and MAT treatment. Responsible for delivery of treatment activities to patients as indicated by treatment plans that concern medical issues.
- Oversees the administration and charting of prescription and non-prescription medications per doctors orders. Oversees the medical aspects of patients including medications, physical health, and medical treatment. Consults Medical Director when necessary.
- Administers medication/phones in prescriptions as ordered by physician.
- Enforces medication administration, storage procedures, and controlled substance regulations. Provides direction to ensure all policies and procedures are followed.
- Recognizes and reports the therapeutic actions and side effects of medications and initiates appropriate interventions in emergencies.
- Ensures timely authorizations are submitted for patient medications and/or appointments with applicable third-party payors.
- Records patient information such as vital signs, COWS, reason for seeking care, and changes in medical history prior to each appointment.
- Cleans and prepares office for patient appointment.
- Assists the medical provider with patient education pertaining to their ongoing health care; results of labs, diet/exercise, laboratory preparation, treatment expectations.
- Supports patient care delivery by assisting medical provider during patient examination and treatment, including processing medical billing, collection of specimens including urine and blood, and administration of medications and injections.
- Answers telephone calls from patients, pharmacies, laboratories, and insurance carriers.
- Provides consultation and education to the community as assigned.
- Participates with colleagues in developing ongoing initiatives and maintaining performance standards.
- Participates with colleagues in developing and implementing continuous quality improvement tasks.
- Attends regularly scheduled staff meetings, supervisory sessions, and in-services.
- Assumes other duties as requested by supervisor.
- Provides back-up coverage for Medically Monitored Unit Nurses, if applicable.
Physical Demands
- The staff member is regularly required to sit and talk or hear.
- The staff member is occasionally required to stand and walk.
- The staff member may occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision.
- The staff member must have the ability to move within and between agency buildings, standing, sitting, lifting, and manipulating objects typically found in this work environment.
- The ability to maintain the confidentiality of client information as mandated by various federal and state laws.
- The staff member may be required to work at any agency building as needed/directed and be responsible for her/his own transportation.
- The staff member will be scheduled based on agency need.
- The staff member may experience traumatic situations including hostile clients, clients family members, and/or responsible parties.
- The ability to understand all policies/procedures and the ability to reference them from the agencys manuals.
- The ability to comply with the agencys infection control policies/procedures including the Exposure Control plan which reflects OSHA Bloodborne pathogens standard to ensure a safe work environment for self and others.
- The staff member must be able to work in a fast-paced environment with demonstrated ability to juggle and prioritize multiple, competing tasks and demands and to seek supervisory assistance as appropriate.
