Position: Retail Pharmacy Manager
POSITION OVERVIEW:
The Retail Pharmacy Manager is responsible for the oversight and coordination of daily pharmacy operations with a primary focus on safe medication dispensing, regulatory compliance, and high'quality patient care. This position provides leadership for pharmacy staff, supports efficient workflow, and ensures adherence to professional standards and organizational policies. The Pharmacy Manager serves as a clinical and operational leader within the pharmacy.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Required
- Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) degree from an ACPE-accredited school
- Active pharmacist license in the state of Iowa
- Minimum of 2-3 years of community or retail pharmacy experience
- Strong clinical knowledge and attention to detail
- Excellent communication and customer service skills
Preferred
- Previous experience as a Pharmacy manager or PIC
- Prior supervisory experience within a Pharmacy setting
- Immunization certification (or willingness to obtain)

POSITION-SPECIFIC REQUIREMENTS:
Pharmacy Operations & Compliance
- Serve as Pharmacist'in'Charge (PIC), when designated, with responsibility for compliance with Iowa Board of Pharmacy and DEA.
- Ensure policies are in place regarding accurate dispensing and labeling of prescriptions and those policies are followed
- Ensure that security of the prescription area and its contents are maintained at all times, including the restriction of persons unauthorized by the pharmacist on duty from being present in the prescription area while the pharmacist is temporarily absent but within the premises and the reporting of any thefts and/or diversions of controlled substances are reported upon discovery to the Office of Drug Control and the Drug Enforcement Administration pursuant to Federal and State requirements
- Maintain the prescription area in an orderly and sanitary manner; as well as the pharmacy and all pharmacy personnel comply with all Federal and State rules and regulations governing the practice of pharmacy
Quality & Patient Safety
- Ensures adequate staffing is present to fulfill the needs of the pharmacy
- Identify, document, and address medication errors, near misses, and safety concerns
Patient Care & Clinical Services
- Accurately dispense prescription medications in compliance with federal and state regulations
- Provide patient counseling on medication use, dosing, side effects, interactions, and adherence
- Conduct clinical interventions as appropriate
- Administer immunizations and other pharmacist'provided clinical services
Collaboration & Care Coordination
- Communicate effectively with prescribers, nurses, care coordinators, and other healthcare professionals
- Adapt workflows to meet changing patient needs in a community healthcare environment

- Maintain patient confidentiality and comply with HIPAA and hospital privacy and information security policies
- Maintain professionalism and patient trust in all interactions
- Demonstrate scheduling flexibility to support continuity of pharmacy services
- Perform other duties as necessary to support pharmacy operations and patient care

- Works in a well-illuminated, climate-controlled environment
- May come in contact with hazardous chemical or treatment modalities
- Possibility exists of exposure to communicable diseases
- Involvement in inpatient care may result in unavoidable work-related illness or injury
- Work environment is comfortable, with minimal exposure to physical hazards
- Moderate to loud noise environment when machines/equipment in use
- Involvement in checking in/moving of supplies may result in unavoidable work-related injury
- Must be constantly alert for patient/family emergency situations
