RN Charge

Job Summary:

As a Charge Nurse (RN) on our 14-bed medical-surgical floor, you will play an important role in providing high-quality patient care. Charge nurse responsibilities include making patient assignments, delegating appropriate tasks to nurses and nursing assistants, being a role model for staff nurses and students, being a resource person for other members of the health care team, as well as providing excellent patient care. The Charge nurse will help in educating and informing floor staff of any new changes, monitoring policy, procedures and practices of the facility. This dynamic position involves managing medical-surgical patients, collaborating with a team of nursing personnel, and working closely with physicians and residents. Your kindness, excellent time management skills, and ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment are essential.

Responsibilities:

  • Patient Care:
    • Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate nursing care for patients admitted to the medical-surgical unit.
    • Monitor vital signs, administer medications, and provide wound care.
    • Educate patients and their families on post-operative recovery, pain management, and self-care.
  • Collaboration:
    • Work seamlessly with other nurses, nurse assistants, and healthcare professionals to ensure coordinated patient care.
    • Communicate effectively with physicians, surgeons, and surgical residents regarding patient status and treatment plans.
  • Resource Utilization:
    • Leverage available resources, including nurse assistants, to optimize patient outcomes.
    • Prioritize tasks efficiently to manage a high patient turnover.
  • Professionalism and Compassion:
    • Demonstrate kindness, empathy, and compassion toward patients and their families.
    • Uphold ethical standards and maintain patient confidentiality.


Qualifications:

  • Education and Licensure:
    • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) from an accredited program.
    • Current RN licensure in Louisiana or compact licensure.
  • Experience:
    • 2-3 years of Prior experience in medical-surgical nursing experience
  • Skills and Attributes:

    • Strong communication and teamwork abilities.
