Position Statement

A successful Preop/PACU RN is one who is meticulous and detailed oriented. One should be caring, compassionate and have knowledge of the care of the patient pre and post-surgical procedures. The RN should have a broad knowledge of all age populations, recognizing normal and abnormal presentation of the patient. The Preop/PACU RN will adhere to the ASPAN standards of care and recommendations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • The RN working in the Preop/PACU will investigate the patient's history through chart review and interviewing the patient.
  • The RN will orient the patient and/or family /support person to the routines of surgery.
  • The Preop/PACU RN will assess and monitor according to the procedure performed.
  • The Preop/PACU RN will provide appropriate interventions based on patient condition.
  • The Preop/PACU RN's goal is to control the patient's pain through both pharmacological and non-pharmacological interventions.
  • Communicating with patients and their families, being a patient advocate, and providing emotional support
  • Documenting patient information and maintaining accurate medical records.
  • Operating and monitoring medical equipment
  • Identifying any complications or emergencies and responding swiftly
  • Educating patients about the procedure and what to expect during their recovery.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Bachelor's degree in Nursing (BSN) is preferred; Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) accepted.
  • Current and unrestricted Registered Nurse (RN) license.
  • Certification in CAPA (optional but preferred).
  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification within the first year of hire
  • Pediatric Advance Life Support (PALS certification) within 2nd year of hire
  • Strong clinical assessment and communication skills.
  • Ability to remain calm and focused in high-pressure situations.
  • Flexibility to work irregular hours, including nights and weekends.
  • Commitment to patient-centered care and a positive birthing experience.
  • Incorporate Evidence-Based best Practice into the daily setting through holistic, quality based with the most up to date research and knowledge.

Pay Information:

$32.88 - $43.49 hourly
