POLICY STATEMENT:
Hot Springs Health believes that continuing education promotes better patient care, organizational proficiency and employee retention. To that end, the hospital has a scholarship program designed to financially assist employees/students who wish to pursue an educational degree, license or certification that is beneficial to the care of our patients.
PURPOSE:
To encourage and financially support employees in increasing their technical, professional and/or
managerial knowledge through the pursuit of additional education.
PROCEDURE:
- Eligibility
- Students
- Students must have a minimum of a 3.0 high school GPA if applying within four years of high school graduation.
- If it has been more than four years since high school graduation, applicants must demonstrate a history of commitment to the community through leadership activities, community service and/or work experience
- Current Employees:
- Full and part time employees are eligible after one year of continuous service from date of hire.
- Employees must have satisfactory performance reviews and have no written disciplinary actions within the previous 12 months in their personnel file.
- Scholarship Application:
- Employees and Students interested in applying for a scholarship must complete an application on the Hot Springs Health career website prior to the beginning of the semester or course.
- Proof of university degree requirements and/or course descriptions must be provided.
- Completed applications will be reviewed by Senior Leadership for approval.
- Once approval has been granted and prior to beginning the first class or semester, the scholarship recipient must complete the Education Program Agreement.
- Education Criteria
- All courses must be taken through an accredited institution/organization.
- Courses must be healthcare related or beneficial for the care of our patients. Exceptions to this would be elective courses required to achieve an advanced degree.
- Scholarship Payment
- Scholarships to be offered will be equal to the individuals cost of tuition and books.
- Tuition costs not to exceed $3,500.00 for two (2) full-time semesters (full-time semester as defined by the educational program).
- Part-time or summer school enrollment may be reimbursed at a pro-rated sum with prior approval of the Chief Executive Officer or his/her designee.
- Annual amounts may exceed the above with CEO approval on a case by case basis.
- Payment Exclusions:
- supplies, athletic fees, travel, lodging and meals.
- Payment Inclusions:
- tuition, general fees, required books, and laboratory fees.
- Non-resident fees are subject to individual review.
- Scholarships will be paid directly to the accredited institution/organization.
- Proof of cost of tuition/registration and books must be provided prior to scholarship allotment.
- Scholarship Requirements
- Scholarship recipient must agree to work for Hot Springs Health after completion of the education program for a designated amount of time as identified in the Education Program Agreement.
- Scholarship recipients must maintain a 3.0 GPA or better.

- In a pass/fail grading system, a pass grade will be required.
- Upon completion of the course/certification/graduation, the applicant must present proof of their final grade or certification to the Human Resources Department.
- Upon graduation/certification from the educational program if there is not an employment opportunity available at Hot Springs Health the organization will forgive repayment of the educational monies.
