Scribe/Certified Medical Office Assistant
Position Summary
The Medical Assistant Scribe plays a crucial role in accurately and thoroughly documenting medical visits and procedures conducted by physicians, nurses, and physician assistants. This position involves collecting, organizing, and cataloging data for quality reporting systems and other improvement efforts, ensuring the seamless flow of information within the electronic medical record (EMR) system.
- Real-time Documentation:
- Accurately document patient medical history, physical examinations, procedures, and treatments performed by healthcare professionals in real-time during medical visits.
- Physician/APC Assistance:
- Work collaboratively with physicians and advanced practice clinicians (APCs) as an assistant, providing support in EMR documentation and gathering essential information for patient visits.
- Patient Care Collaboration:
- Partner with physicians/APCs to deliver quality and efficient patient care by checking vitals, updating medical histories, inquiring about symptoms, and addressing basic patient queries.
- Diagnostic Laboratory Procedures:
- Perform basic diagnostic laboratory procedures as required, ensuring timely and accurate results for patient assessments.
- Quality Reporting and Improvement:
- Collect and organize data for physician quality reporting systems, contributing to ongoing quality improvement efforts within the Heart & Vascular Center.
- Format collected data for submission to relevant reporting systems.
- Adherence to Policies and Procedures:
- Deliver patient care in accordance with established policies and procedures, utilizing evidence-based care guidelines to ensure high-quality standards.
Compensation is commensurate with education and experience. Hiring compensation starts at $16.00 / hour. This position is non-exempt.
Position Qualifications
Minimum Education
- High School Diploma is required at time of hire.
- Certified Medical Assistant certification required or certification attained within one year of hire.
Experience
- Previous experience as a CMA required. Previous experience in endoscopy preferred but not required.
Required Registration/License/Certification
- Certified Medical Assistant within 1 year from hire.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) issued by the American Heart Association is required at time of hire.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Ability to communicate courteously and effectively with the public, patients, family, staff, and physician and acts within the chain of command, utilizing positive verbal and non-verbal skills.
- Competent in delivering safe and effective patient care within legal limits of licensure and hospital policies and procedures.
Physical Demands
- Lifts, positions, pushes, pulls and/or transfers up to and greater than 50 pounds
- Manual dexterity and mobility
- Prolonged, extensive or considerable sitting/standing/walking
- Bending, squatting, twisting, turning
- Near acuity: ability to see clearly at 20 inches or less
Working Conditions
- Regularly exposed to the risk of blood borne diseases
- Exposed to hazards from electrical/mechanical/power equipment
- Exposed to odorous chemicals and specimens
- Exposed to unpleasant elements (accident, injury, slippery surfaces uneven surfaces) etc.
- Handles emergency or crisis situations
- Subject to irregular hours.
