Scrub Tech

Job Responsibilities:

Basic Patient Care

  • Provides care to the surgical patient, including but not limited to surgical prep and foley insertion.
  • Performs procedures on a unit as described on the competency checklist
  • Performs high quality care based on hospital and department quality measures
  • Performs nurse tech duties for the entire unit between deliveries


Organizational of Unit Activities

  • Keeps work area and patient areas neat and stocks supplies as needed
  • Assists the circulator in making sure all relevant equipment is available for the anticipated procedure.
  • Maintain cesarean OR supplies and inventory
  • Coordinate drop off and pick up of delivery instruments with sterile processing


Reports Patient Findings

  • Keeps work area and patient areas neat and stocks supplies as needed
  • Communicates to the circulator of all specimens removed from the field per physician
  • Provides knowledge of instrumentation to the team and troubleshooting techniques when needed


Documentation

  • Plans individualized patient care according to procedure and age specifics
  • Identifies needs including supplies, instrumentation and equipment when items are unavailable
  • Verify, receive, mix and report all medications administered on the sterile field.
  • Attend all deliveries and assist the Provider as needed.


Preparation for the anticipated procedures includes:

  • Review of preference card, pulling designated equipment, setting up the sterile field, maintaining aseptic technique throughout the procedure.
  • Assemble and maintain retractors, prepare, pass and cut suture materials as directed by the surgeon.
  • Picking cases for the next day's schedule as needed
  • Delivery table set up and broken down


Education Required:
• High School Diploma or Equivalent
• Certificate Program
• Graduated from an accreted Surgical Technical Program

License, Certification, Etc:
• CST
• BLS
