Position: Speech Language Pathologist 11-Month Employment

Location: Milford School District

Qualifications:

  • Hold or be eligible for a valid Delaware Speech Pathology license
  • Other requirements as established by the state of Delaware for certification/licensure



Performance Responsibilities:

  • Demonstrates knowledge of federal, state and local rules, regulations and laws.
  • Communicates effectively with the Director of Student Services, school administrators, teachers, students, families and related services team.
  • Provides prevention, assessment and remediation services for students who exhibit difficulties in the areas of language, speech, voice, and fluency.
  • Maintains data for program planning and decision-making.
  • Completes records for third party reimbursement accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Assists and guides teachers in observing, describing, and referring to suspected and identified speech and language disorders.
  • Provides a thorough assessment and diagnosis of speech, voice, hearing, and language impairments.
  • Provides screening to identify speech-disabled children at regular intervals and at specified levels.
  • Assists in proper referrals of individuals to agencies and specialists in the community as appropriate.
  • Collaborates with classroom teachers and other school staff members to implement therapy by suggestions for the student's daily activities.
  • Provides professional development and serves as a consultant to teachers and school staff members on topics concerning speech services.
  • Maintains lists of referred, screened, and eligible students, as well as a directory of outside agencies, consultants, specialists, and related services.
  • Assumes primary responsibility for requisitioning and maintaining materials and equipment necessary to the delivery of service.
  • Serves as an advocate for speech/language service programs and needs.
  • Attends IEP meetings and provides leadership to the development of IEPs when appropriate.
  • Implements, monitors and updates goals on IEPs for students.
  • Provides summative data regarding the effectiveness of speech services as requested.
  • Serves as a vital team member of the school-community.
  • Schedules interventions using a variety of service delivery models, including classroom intervention, consultation/collaboration and pullout as appropriate to meet student needs in the least restrictive environment.
  • Other duties as assigned.



Essential Employment Condition: By accepting employment as an 11-month employee with the Milford School District, you acknowledge and understand that:

  • A primary responsibility during the summer months (June to August) is to support district-run summer programming for special education students, Extended School Year (ESY), and/or other specialized instructional or support services.
  • The inclusion of summer duties as part of the 11-month contract is to support summer programming.
  • 11-month employees are expected to maintain flexibility in scheduling to fulfill assigned duties related to summer instruction, student services, or program coordination. The Director of Special Programs shall make every effort to inform 11-month employees of their assigned summer responsibilities by the end of May.



Examples of Summer Duties May Include:

  • Providing direct instruction, related services, or behavioral support to special education students during summer months.
  • Assisting with ESY program setup, progress monitoring, or closure tasks.
  • Supporting data collection, compliance documentation, or student transitions between school years.
  • Participating in professional learning activities connected to program implementation.



Terms of Employment: Eleven-month (11) full-time employee. The 11-month work calendar includes an extended contract period beyond the standard 10-month schedule, encompassing 19 summer days or 142.5 hours assigned by the Director of Special Programs.

Salary and Benefits: Salary range and benefits are commensurate with qualifications and experience in accordance with Board of Education Policy for 11-month staff. Compensation will be adjusted to reflect the total 11-month term, inclusive of these additional responsibilities.

Evaluation: Performance will be evaluated annually in accordance with the Board's policy on evaluation of professional personnel.
