Speech & Language Pathologist

Position: 1.0 FTE - Speech & Language Pathologist
Essential Functions and Responsibilities

  • Provide speech and language services to Preschool, Elementary, Intermediate, Middle School, High School students
  • Evaluation and interpretation of communication needs of students with disabilities
  • Facilitate and attend IEP meetings
  • Supports the family in connecting to other services in the community that they may need and assists in the referral to those agencies/services.
  • Maintains positive and open communication with parents, staff, and administration
  • Provide augmentative and/or assistive technology services and consultation
  • Facilitate and attend regular meetings with staff and parents
  • Work on both special education and general education teams (may include building-level MTSS team)
  • Regular and predictable attendance
  • Compiles and maintains service and progress records, written reports, Medicaid Billing and other documentation
  • Other duties may be assigned



Employment Qualifications

EDUCATION: A master's degree in the area of speech-language pathology from an accredited program in speech language therapy.

EXPERIENCE: Previous experience in a school setting is desired

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: No supervisory responsibilities

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, OR REGISTRATIONS: Special Education Certificate R340.1781, R340.1782 and R340.1796 in the area of Speech/Language; License from Michigan LARA per R340.1792

Required:

  1. Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  2. Good interpersonal skills with children and adults.
  3. Training in assessment and interpretation of information.
  4. Knowledge in implementation of IEP process.
  5. Demonstrated skills using computers and technology throughout the learning process.
  6. Conflict management and resolution skills.


Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, use hands to finger, handle, or feel; talk and hear. The employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; reach with hands and arms; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 30 pounds of stored files. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, and ability to adjust focus, especially due to concentration when reading and working on a computer screen.
