Speech Language Pathologist

Sitka School District is seeking a full-time Speech-Language Pathologist for grades Preschool-12. This position provides consultation, evaluation and diagnostic services for students with speech and language problems. We are seeking a SLP experienced with augmentative communication and assistive technology. Salary is very competitive.

Our district workloads for SLPs vary depending on age groups assigned. Case loads are generally less in our district than in most public schools, with an average of less than 20 for case management and totals of about 40-45 students for services. Therapists works collaboratively with special education teachers and other therapists (OT, PT) to schedule services, providing a combination of individual and group therapy sessions. Our district follows inclusive practices, with therapy or pull-out services when needed. Our district enrollment averages about 1200 students, with about 13-15% receiving special education services.. There are a total of 5 schools in our district; PK-1, 2-5, 6-8, 9 - 12 and alternative 9-12. Caseload assignments for age/grade levels will be decided collaboratively between district SLPs and administrators.

Qualifications: Type C Alaska Certificate - For endorsement in speech, language, or hearing, you must hold either a master's or higher degree with a major emphasis in speech-language pathology, audiology, or speech-language and hearing science; or possess certification of clinical competence from the American Speech Language-Hearing Association. In addition, you must be recommended for endorsement by an institution with a program approved by NCATE or the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association.
