Speech-Language Pathologist

SUMMARY:

To provide effective speech and language support for students who have been identified as needing speech and language services to positively interact with parents, students, other educators, and community members in establishing and maintaining programs providing speech and language support.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

In accordance with the Collective Bargaining Agreement. 186 days (Instructional and Professional Development, as set by current school calendar). Salary, benefits, work schedule and conditions as set by the board and in accordance with current professional agreement.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Work with students will be primarily performed in classroom settings when appropriate, in pull-out, small group, or individual settings. The noise level in the work environment varies. The employee is frequently required to interact with the public (especially families) and other staff. The employee is directly responsible for the safety, well-being, and instruction of students.

  • Ability to supervise pupils in the school and community, as assigned
  • Ability to utilize positive behavior support strategies to effectively manage student behavior
  • Ability to work as part of a team - be able to establish and maintain positive working relationships with staff and students
  • Ability to display competence and good judgment in dealing with any physical and/or medical emergency which might arise
  • Ability to utilize technology
  • Ability to collaborate with the IEP team to assist in developing an educational program that will be directed toward the development of academic, communication, and social/emotional needs of students
  • Ability to adhere to Federal, State, IU, District, and other applicable procedures, policies, and regulations

  • Ability to provide leadership in the development, implementation and evaluation of programs and services related to school-based speech and language services and instruction

  • Current Act 34, 114, and 151 clearances; as well as Mandated Reporter training requirements
  • Ability to perform activities and other duties as assigned

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:?

  • Valid active Pennsylvania Certification in Speech/Language Pathology
  • License in Speech Pathology required
  • Clearances in compliance with School Code
  • Valid PA Driver's License
  • At least two years of experience is preferred

SPECIFIC POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:?In conducting this role, the essential duties of the Speech/Language Pathologist position shall include, but are not limited to the following:?

  1. Provide comprehensive, integrative speech/language programs for students in need of these services, documenting communications using the District's Student Information System.
  1. Maintain a cooperative, enthusiastic, constructive attitude toward teaching and conduct assignments professionally and efficiently using good communication skills with students, staff, and parents.
  1. Develop and implement Individual Educational Plans (IEPs) for students receiving speech and language services.
  1. Participate in multidisciplinary evaluations as required by the Director of Special Education.
  1. Ensure all Special Educational documentation is completed within the established time frame, in accordance with Special Education regulations and standards.
  1. Participate in MTSS team meetings when requested by administration.
  1. Create and maintain a safe and orderly instructional environment for students.
  1. Requisition necessary supplies, materials, and equipment to complement a comprehensive

program.

  1. Participate as assigned by the building principal and Director of Special Education in duties such as, but not limited to, cafeteria, hall, dismissal, or playground monitoring.
  1. Serve as a resource for parents, educators and other personnel while maintaining a cooperative and positive relationship with staff.
  1. Travel from building to building within the district to provide itinerant services to students in district as well as providing services to Mifflinburg students attending programs out of the district.
  1. Follow applicable laws, policies, procedures, and directives as established by the state, department of education, school board and administration.
  1. Attend and participate in Open House, staff development activities, faculty meetings, department/grade level meetings and serve on building or district committees as listed in the Collective Bargaining Agreement for a teacher.
  1. Participate and support school wide Positive Behavioral Support Programs.
  1. Pursue ongoing professional growth, seek self-improvement opportunities, and keep informed of new developments in the field of school-based speech and language services.
  1. Maintain requirements for continued licensure in Pennsylvania.
  1. Maintain records which include diagnostic reports, parent contacts, services provided, and other pertinent information utilizing the student information system.
  1. Manage caseload of services to students with special needs to provide speech and language support as required on IEPs.
  1. Perform any other duties assigned by the Director of Special Education.
