BASIC FUNCTION:
The Speech-language pathology assistant provides certain language, articulation, voice and fluency activities as assigned by the supervising speech-language pathologist as denoted in Iowa Administrative Rules of Special Education 41.403(2).
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Conduct speech-language screenings, as directed by the supervising SLP.
- Follow and deliver treatment plans or protocols developed by the supervising SLP.
- Document patient/client performance.
- Assist supervising SLP during assessment.
- Assist with informal documentation, preparing materials and other clerical duties.
- Schedule activities as directed by the supervising SLP.
- Perform checks and maintenance of equipment.
- Participate in professional development provided by or through the district.
- Serve as an advocate for all children and youth.
- Demonstrate cultural competence and behaviors consistent with the core values, vision and mission of Des Moines Public Schools.

- Maintain confidentiality.

HIRING SPECIFICATIONS:
Required:
- Bachelor's degree in speech pathology, communications disorders or education from a recognized training institution or enrollment in a speech-language pathology program.
Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities:
- Basic computer skills including internet, email, and word processing.
- Detail-oriented and ability to multi-task.
