Position Overview
The Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP) is responsible for providing skilled speech therapy services, including evaluation, treatment planning, and implementation of individualized therapy programs. The SLP will focus on improving residents' swallowing function, cognitive skills, communication abilities, and overall independence.
Key Responsibilities
- Evaluate residents for swallowing (dysphagia), speech, language, and cognitive deficits
- Develop and implement individualized treatment plans
- Provide skilled, medically necessary speech-language therapy services
- Monitor and document resident progress and response to treatment
- Provide augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) systems as needed
- Coordinate diagnostic swallowing procedures (MBSS, FEES) as ordered
- Educate residents, families, and caregivers on therapy goals and progress
- Collaborate with nursing, restorative staff, and interdisciplinary team members
- Maintain accurate documentation and billing in compliance with state and federal regulations
- Communicate changes in resident condition promptly
- Ensure resident confidentiality and uphold patient rights
- Comply with all federal, state, and local regulatory standards
Qualifications
- Active State License as a Speech-Language Pathologist
- ASHA Certification (CCC-SLP required)
- Experience in skilled nursing or long-term care preferred
- Strong clinical documentation and communication skills
- Ability to work collaboratively within an interdisciplinary team
