Speech Language Pathologist - Special Services

TITLE: Speech Pathologist

QUALIFICATIONS:As set by state certification authorities

Three years or more years of recent experience with children

REPORTS TO:Site Principal

JOB GOAL:To help students having communication disorders achieve better communication so that they may be able to realize the greatest success which their capabilities will permit with a maximum of satisfaction to themselves, a maximum benefit to society, and a minimum of friction and tension

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Participates in evaluative process, eligibility, placement, and Individualized Education Plan (IEP) team meetings.
  2. Develops IEP goals, lesson plans, and instructional materials that meet the district's curriculum goals as well as the individual needs of each student.
  3. Recommend appropriate placement & service delivery for students eligible to receive speech-language services.
  4. Evaluates student's learning, keeps appropriate records, and prepares reports relating to student's progress.
  5. Employs a variety of instructional techniques and creates an effective learning environment conducive to small group and individual therapy sessions.
  6. Takes necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
  7. Establishes and maintains standards of pupil behavior needed to achieve a functional learning atmosphere in the classroom.
  8. Cooperates and consults with general education teachers and other staff in planning instructional goals, modifications, and accommodations to be used with students in special education.
  9. Communicates with parents through conferences and other means to discuss student's progress, areas of need, program goals, and other updates as needed.
  10. Maintains professional competence through in service education activities provided by the district and self-selected professional growth activities.
  11. Maintains confidentiality.
  12. Abides by all district, state, and federal laws, policies, and procedures, including timely completion of documentation.
  13. Maintains appropriate emotional stability, physical health, personal appearance, and personality.
  14. Attends and participates in faculty meetings and professional development activities.
  15. Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Salary and work year to be established by the Board.

EVALUATION: Performance of this job will be evaluated annually in accordance with provisions of the Board's policy on Evaluation of Professional Personnel.
