Job Summary
As a Speech Pathologist, you will play a vital role in helping individuals of all ages overcome communication and speech challenges. Your expertise will be crucial in diagnosing and treating speech, language, voice, and swallowing disorders, making a significant impact on the lives of those you serve. You will work in a collaborative healthcare environment to enhance communication and improve the quality of life for your clients.
Responsibilities:
- Conduct comprehensive assessments to evaluate clients' speech, language, voice, and swallowing abilities, identifying communication, and swallowing disorders.
- Develop individualized treatment plans based on assessment results, setting specific goals and objectives for each client's needs.
- Provide evidence-based speech therapy, including articulation therapy, language intervention, fluency therapy, and voice therapy, as required by the client's diagnosis.
- Perform dysphagia evaluations and provide therapy for clients with swallowing disorders.
- Educate clients and their families on speech and language disorders, therapy techniques, and home exercises to support progress.
- Regularly assess and document client progress, adjusting treatment plans as needed to achieve therapy goals.
- Work closely with other healthcare professionals, including physicians, occupational therapists, and educators, to ensure comprehensive client care.
- Maintain accurate and detailed client records, reports, and treatment notes, adhering to legal and ethical standards.
- Stay updated on the latest advancements in speech pathology and contribute to evidence-based practice.
- Other duties as assigned.
Requirements
Education:
- Master's or Doctoral degree in Speech-Language Pathology from an accredited program.
Certifications:
- Certification of Clinical Competence in Speech-Language Pathology (CCC-SLP) from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) is mandatory.
- State licensure as a Speech-Language Pathologist.
Experience:
- Clinical experience in speech pathology, including internships and practical training, is typically required.
- Specialized experience in a particular area, such as pediatric speech therapy, may be preferred for specific roles.
Physical Requirements:
- Manual dexterity to operate office equipment.
- May require long periods of sitting and standing.
- Must have normal or corrected vision and be able to clearly communicate verbally by phone or in person.
- Good communication skills and emotional resilience to provide support to patients facing mental health challenges.
