Job Description Job Summary Reporting to the Senior Director, IS Technical Services, the Sr. Network/Security Engineer is responsible for network engineering and design, technical expertise for network and security problem resolution and evaluation. This includes, but is not limited to, the WAN, LAN’s (network within all supported facilities), hardware and software components, protocols, monitoring tools, and capacity planning. The Sr. Network/Secuirty Engineer researches new network technologies and upgrades as they emerge and determines their effectiveness and strategy in the system. The Sr. Network/Security Engineer is responsible for providing project management for the installation and support of new products, upgrades and standards. The Sr. Network/Secuirty Engineer also provides documentation for all associated network implementations and standards, and trains peers in these areas. This position’s responsibilities span the entire Health System. All duties should be performed in a manner that promotes teamwork and reflects the mission and philosophy of the Health System. Job Functions 1. Designs and monitors LAN and WAN network systems for Emerson Health System and its affiliates. 2. Identifies, analyzes, designs and tests, and upgrades improvements to the network. Performs support for the network. 3. Researches and maintains a knowledge of emerging new products and strategies and their relative value against competitors and the benefit to the organization. Easily assimilates new technologies and arrives at viable conclusions regarding their value to the organization. 4. Responsible for engineering and design of the network to ensure that adequate network capacity is maintained to meet current and future bandwidth requirements. 5. Acts as the expert resource in the technical evaluation of the infrastructure for new applications. 6. Responsible for network design for all existing and proposed information systems. 7. Produces procedures and policies for new products and/or methodologies. 8. Acts as a resource to the Help Desk for escalation of complex network design and problem resolution. 9. Assists in feasibility studies and cost/benefit analysis. 10. Recommends and coordinates external technical services. 11. Documents the network decisions, system designs and procedures. 12. Trains supporting IS staff on new/revised networking configurations. 13. Conducts integrated network testing of all systems functions and interfaces. 14. Works well and provides positive interpersonal relations in dealing with fellow employees, supervisors, and the other department employees. 15. Documents follow up for issues/concerns on projects. Updates must be timely and in excellent written or verbal form. 16. Maintains confidentiality of all information related to patients, medical staff, employees, and business issues. 17. Demonstrates positive interpersonal relations in dealing with fellow employees, supervisors, and other department employees, so that productivity and positive employee relations are maximized. 18. Consistently demonstrates and incorporates principles of safety and infection control into daily activities as outlined in Safety, Infection C ontrol, and other manuals. Uses protective equipment and takes appropriate precautions whenever there is potential for contact with blood, body fluids and/or chemicals. Maintains knowledge of disaster policies and participates in disaster drills. 19. Other duties as assigned from time to time. Minimum Qualifications Education · Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Information Systems or related specialty, and/or equivalent experience/training with a minimum of five (5) years of network systems analysis and/or design. Experience · See Education section Licensure and/or Certification Skills · Knowledge of project management, analysis skills, computer systems testing and training. · Expert knowledge of LAN/WAN networking systems integration. · Demonstrated organizational and communications skills (written and oral). · Ability to identify and resolve problems or difficulties. · Highly motivated and able to take initiative. · Ability to interact favorably with people, and work effectively as a team leader and team member. · Expert knowledge of Cisco routers and switches, Checkpoint firewalls, TCP/IP, intelligent HUBS, Ethernet, protocols, ATM, various PC brands, and network monitoring equipment. · Ability to communicate on interpersonal and technical levels both verbally and in writing. · Must have the ability to work positively in a team environment and encourage/train other team members on process and functionality. · Ability to maintain confidential information required. · Must have the ability to read, write, and communicate in English. · Excellent customer service skills.
