The Role

Stratus recently partnered with PVEDI and is seeking a Staff Environmental Engineer to join our New York City office. Working under the direction of senior technical staff, this role supports a wide variety of environmental investigation, remediation, and compliance projects through a combination of fieldwork and office-based responsibilities. The ideal candidate enjoys working in both field and office environments and is interested in building a long-term consulting career with opportunities for professional growth and advancement.

Responsibilities

  • Perform site reconnaissance to evaluate existing site conditions, identify access requirements, and document environmental and geologic features
  • Monitor subsurface exploration activities, including test borings, Geoprobe investigations, and test pits, to collect soil, groundwater, bedrock, and related environmental data
  • Conduct soil, groundwater, and environmental sampling in accordance with ASTM standards, regulatory requirements, and company procedures
  • Collect, compile, analyze, and interpret environmental, geological, and field data using spreadsheets, databases, and other technical tools
  • Perform on-site monitoring and engineering observation of environmental remediation and geotechnical construction activities
  • Operate environmental monitoring equipment and field instrumentation to support site investigations and remediation projects
  • Conduct historical site research and evaluate applicable federal, state, and local environmental regulations
  • Prepare technical reports, proposals, cost estimates, Phase I Environmental Site Assessments (ESAs), Phase II Environmental Site Investigations, and other client deliverables
  • Assist Project Managers throughout the project lifecycle, including project planning, scheduling, subcontractor coordination, budgeting, resource allocation, and financial tracking
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary project teams to deliver high-quality environmental consulting services while maintaining project schedules and client expectations

Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelor's degree in Environmental Engineering, Geology, Environmental Science, or a related discipline
  • Master's degree is a plus
  • Minimum of two (2) years of environmental consulting experience performing Phase I and Phase II Environmental Site Assessments and environmental investigations
  • Experience evaluating environmental data and presenting technical findings through written reports and client communications
  • Strong technical writing skills with experience preparing regulatory reports and environmental documentation
  • Has obtained or is eligible to obtain professional certification within their discipline, such as Engineer-in-Training (EIT), Fundamentals of Engineering (FE), Fundamentals of Geology (FG), or Professional Geologist (PG)
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, organizational, and communication skills
  • Willingness to travel to project sites and perform fieldwork in varying terrain and weather conditions

Preferred

  • Experience supporting remedial design projects, including engineering calculations, drafting, and preparation of construction documents
  • Experience working on projects under the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (NYSDEC) Brownfield Cleanup Program
  • Experience supporting the New York City Voluntary Cleanup Program (VCP)
  • OSHA 40-Hour HAZWOPER Certification
  • OSHA 30-Hour Construction Safety Certification
  • Experience with environmental data management, technical report preparation, and multidisciplinary project coordination
