Under the general supervision of the Nurse Manager of the Telfair BirthPlace, the staff Registered Nurse (RN) utilizes the nursing process to provide and coordinate care for antepartum ,intrapartum , postpartum and normal newborn patients based on current standards of obstetrical/neonatal nursing. The staff RN is also responsible for the supervision of assigned personnel and promoting collaboration among the multi-disciplinary health care team. The staff RN functions within the permissible scope of nursing practice as defined by the Georgia Board of Nursing.
Registered Nursing License with State of Practice - Required
Basic Life Support (BLS) - Required
Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) - Preferred, Required in first 6 months of employment
Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NPR) - Preferred, Required in first 6 months of employment

Competes mandatory educational requirements in a timely manner. Assists Professional Development Coordinator/Educators in planning and presenting unit-based in-services.
Documents all patient related clinical information and assesses patient for special needs and plans appropriate intervention. Comprehensive review of the patient's medical history is performed and documented.
Care plan development and implementation with health care team members collaborating to develop long and short term patient goals. Communication with physicians using Situation, Background, Assessment, and Recommendation format. Consistent rounding and communicating including present on admission indicators and baseline FIM scores. Contributes to the multidiscipline team conference.
Assess data related to basic, physical, developmental, spiritual, cultural, functional, and psychosocial needs of the patient. Collects data within established protocols and guidelines from various sources. Documents data collection, assessment, and communicates findings to appropriate healthcare members.
Communicates using SBAR when changes in the patient status occurs during perioperative phases. Provides thorough hand off report during all transitions of patient care. Reviews medical record for pertinent test results and communicates to anesthesia and surgeon.
Documents and scans all refill requests, new prescriptions, phone calls, laboratory and diagnostic results, medical equipment/supply orders, referrals, notifications, problems, appointments, contact information, and medical records to the EMR
Demonstrates knowledge and practice of The Joint Commission, OSHA and CMS guidelines.Follows AWHONN, ACOG, AAP standard of care and policies within Women's and Children Services.
