Sterile Processing
Willis Knighton North is seeking a Sterile Processing Technician. The Sterile Processing Technician is responsible for the decontamination, preparation, sterilization, and distribution of surgical instruments and medical equipment. This role supports patient safety, infection prevention, and clinical efficiency by ensuring all instruments meet established quality and regulatory standards. Participation in a rotating call schedule is required for this position.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Decontaminate, clean, disinfect, and sterilize surgical instruments and medical equipment
- Inspect, assemble, and package instrument trays and surgical sets according to departmental standards.
- Operate, monitor, and document sterilization equipment and processes.
- Ensure proper labeling, tracking, and documentation of sterile items.
- Perform quality assurance checks for cleanliness, functionality, and sterility of items processed.
- Distribute sterile supplies to operating rooms and patient care areas.
- Maintain compliance with infection control policies and regulatory standards (e.g., AAMI, OSHA, Joint Commission)
- Identify and report damaged, missing, or malfunctioning instruments.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.
- Communicate effectively with surgical staff, nursing, and leadership to support patient care.
Education and Experience Requirements
- Completion of a Surgical Technology or Sterile Processing training program.
- Prior experience in sterile processing or healthcare environment preferred.
Certification Requirements
- Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST - HSPA) preferred
- Completion of Sterile Processing University training within six months of hire.

Physical and Work Environment Requirements
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods

- Exposure to biohazardous materials, cleaning agents, and sterilization equipment
- Use of personal protective equipment (PPE) required
