Position Summary:

Boone County Health Center is seeking a detail-oriented and reliable Sterile Processing Technician (Level I or II) to join our Surgery Department. This vital role is responsible for cleaning, sterilizing, assembling, and delivering surgical instruments and scopes for use in the Operating Room (OR), Emergency Room (ER), Obstetrics (OB), and hospital-based clinics. The technician ensures proper infection control procedures are followed to promote patient and staff safety.
Qualifications:

• High school diploma or equivalent required
• Level I: On-the-job training provided (certification not required)
• Level II: Sterile Processing Certification required
• Basic Life Support (BLS), or willingness to obtain upon hire
• Preferred: Experience in sterile processing and knowledge of medical terminology, OR procedures, and aseptic technique

Key Responsibilities:
Sterile Processing & Equipment Handling:

• Receive, clean, and sterilize surgical instruments and diagnostic scopes (e.g., colonoscopes, EGD, cystoscopes, bronchoscopes)
• Operate sterilizers, decontamination washers, and biological testing equipment (e.g., Attest Auto-Reader)
• Assemble, wrap, and label instruments for processing and delivery

Inventory & Workflow Management:

• Maintain accurate equipment and sterilization logs
• Order supplies through Cerner Supply Requisition
• Keep the work area clean, organized, and well-stocked
• Adapt to changes in workflow and respond to high-volume needs, including potential weekend or holiday call-ins

Communication & Safety:

• Troubleshoot equipment issues and communicate effectively with team members
• Follow infection control, safety, and HIPAA policies
• Wear appropriate protective attire and promote a professional work environment

Requirements & Skills:

• Basic math skills
• Ability to understand and act on instructions in various formats (written, oral, diagrams)
• Strong communication and teamwork abilities
• Attention to detail and ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment

Tools & Equipment Used:

• Sterilization and decontamination equipment
• Computers, scanners, fax, copier
• Hospital communication and inventory systems
