Overview

This position is located at the Conner/Bowe Troop Medical Clinic at Fort Drum, New York.

Fort Drum, home of the 10th Mountain Division, is located in Northern New York's picturesque North County. As one of the most historically unique and geographically beautiful areas of the United States, the area offers bountiful outdoor recreational opportunities such as hunting, fishing, boating, sailing, scuba diving, white water rafting, and winter sports of all types. Fort Drum borders Lake Ontario, the St. Lawrence River, Canada, the Adirondack Mountains, and Vermont.

Guthrie Army Health Center is located at Fort Drum, New York, near the city of Watertown. Watertown is located in the scenic 1,000 lakes region of upstate New York. Museums and historic points of interest include the War of 1812 Battlefield in Sackets Harbor, Boldt Castle, Millionaire's Row, the Antique Boat Museum, lighthouses, Burrville Cider Mill, the Clayton Opera House, and the Jefferson County Historical Society. Additionally, the area provides quaint downtown shopping, on-the-water dining, and family amusements that make Watertown a great place to live.

Responsibilities

As a Supervisory Nurse (Administrative/Ambulatory), you will:

    • Oversee the scope of practice and provision of nursing services within the ambulatory clinic as the Clinical Nurse Officer In Charge (CNOIC).
    • Provide a full range of supervisory duties, to include personnel and resource management comprised of coordinating staffing support, scheduling, hiring, and enforcement of performance standards.
    • Provide input regarding organization, structural, or content changes throughout the ambulatory care centers, services, and clinics in the Medical Treatment Facility (MTF).
    • Provide care coordination activities, internally within the accountable care organization, and externally with civilian and military medical facilities.
    • Serve as a clinic nursing subject matter expert and perform direct patient nursing care, as needed.
    • Evaluate work performance of subordinates and give advice, counsel, or instruction to employees on both technical and administrative matters.
    • Direct and educate staff on organizational policies and initiatives to include The Joint Commission (TJC).

Basic Requirement for Supervisory Nurse (Administrative/Ambulatory):

Degree: A graduate or higher level degree, bachelor's degree, associate degree, or diploma from an accredited professional nursing educational program is required. This education must have been accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education, Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs, Accreditation Commission for Midwifery Education, or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained.

Degree from Foreign Nursing School: Official certification from the Commission on Graduates of Foreign Nursing Schools is required for individuals who graduated from foreign nursing schools.

Licensure: Applicants must have passed the National Council Licensure Examination and possess a current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a professional nurse from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.

In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below:

Experience: At least one full year of professional nursing experience (equivalent to the 11). Professional Nursing Experience is defined as: One year of experience which includes providing comprehensive nursing care to ambulatory patients, overseeing personnel, and coordinating patient care.
Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
