Surgical Technologist

The Surgical Technologist provides surgical care by applying sterile and aseptic techniques under the supervision of the Registered Nurse.

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Prepares for and performs appropriate age-specific surgical care to the patient population.
  • Provides appropriate intraoperative surgical care based on the patient's age and planned surgical procedure.
  • Adheres to the principles of aseptic practice.
  • Performs sponge, sharps, and instrument counts according to policy.
  • Cares for surgical specimens and cultures.
  • Provides a safe environment for the surgical patient.
  • Observes environmental infection control practices.
  • Uses resources and equipment for patient care efficiently.
  • Performs action that demonstrates accountability.


Education:
Graduate of a program in surgical technology required.

Experience:
One year surgical technologist experience preferred.

Licensure/Certification:
Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) through the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting or Tech in Surgery - Certified (Surgery TS-C) through the National Center for Competency Testing within one year required. Basic Life Support (BLS) within 90 days of employment required.

The employee is regularly required to stand, walk, and be on foot for long periods of time. Must be able to tolerate PPE for long periods of time.
