Surgical Technologist - Birth Center

Position Summary
: The Birth Center Surgical Technician works as an integral member of the surgical team providing care for the patient during the peri-operative period. The ST will have an acquired knowledge of the types of procedures performed in this department and will be familiar with the correct application of the instruments used plus how to clean and care for the instruments. The ST will have knowledge of medications used during the intra-operative period. Through proper planning and guidance using physician work sheets/pick list the ST will arrange the instrumentation in such a manner as to achieve maximum efficiency during an operative procedure, anticipating the needs of the surgeon, maintaining the integrity of the sterile field, and participating in all needed counts. Additional responsibilities include; assisting professional nursing personnel in providing patient care and specific services for patients under the direction and supervision of a RN. Provides secretarial support to the professional nursing staff and practitioners by performing diversified secretarial functions at the Birth Center. Provides cleaning, sanitizing and disinfecting of rooms and furnishing in assigned work areas according to established policies and procedures. Provide an additional level of security. Additional duties may be assigned by the Birth Center Manager.

Qualifications

Requires
: Graduate of a certified Scrub Technologist Program and recent clinical work experience. Current AHA BLS and NRP Certification or ability to obtain within 2 months of hire.

Preferred
: Surgical Technician Certification through the certifying body of the Association of Surgical Technologists, Inc.

Must be proficient in the use of computers and accurate data entry. Effective interpersonal and communication skills. Must be detail oriented and possess ability to multi-task under pressure. May request eSkill testing for the following skills:

  • Medical Terminology - General
  • Data Entry - Alpha Numeric
  • Typing - General, 3 minute
  • Excel - Normal User (version most familiar to candidate)
  • Corrective proof reading
