Surgical Technologist Trainee
POSITION PURPOSE
The Surgical Technologist Trainee participates in a structured training program designed to prepare individuals for a Surgical Technologist role in the operating room. The trainee receives classroom instruction, simulation training and supervised clinical experience to develop the knowledge and technical skills necessary to assist surgeons, nurses and other surgical personnel during operative procedures. Under appropriate supervision, the trainee learns sterile technique, surgical instrumentation, patient safety practices and operating room procedures while progressing toward competency as a Surgical Technologist. The trainee will also gain experience in the sterile processing department for foundational awareness and skills vital to the surgical technologist role. The trainee will maintain patient safety and ensure compliance with the National Integrated Association for Healthcare Organizations (NIAHO), Det Norske Veritas (DNV) and the Association of Surgical Technologists. The Surgical Technologist Trainee Program is intended to prepare participants for successful placement into a Surgical Technologist role upon satisfactory completion of all educational and clinical requirements.
MINIMUM MANDATORY qualifications
Experience:
- No previous experience required.
Education:
- High School Diploma or High School Equivalency Test (HSE).
Mandatory Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Other Qualifications:
- Strong critical thinking skills; excellent communication and interpersonal abilities, proficiency in electronic health records (EHR) systems.
- Adherence to Holy Cross Medical Center (HCMC) policies surrounding patient safety, infection control and HIPAA.
- Strong oral and written communication skills in dealing with a variety of individuals.
- Compassionate, patient-focused and adaptable to the dynamic needs of a rural healthcare setting.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification within thirty (30) days of hire.
- Strong attention to detail and willingness to learn.
- A record of satisfactory performance in all prior and current employment as evidenced by positive employment references from previous and current employers.
Preferred qualifications
- Bilingual skills in English and Spanish.
