Responsibilities
- Perform Compensation & Pension (C&P) examinations in accordance with VA schedules and protocols in Minot, ND.
- Conduct comprehensive history and physical examinations, psychiatric evaluations, or specialty assessments as required for C&P exams.
- Complete VA-required documentation accurately and timely, including Disability Benefits Questionnaires (DBQs), exam reports, and any electronic health record (EHR) entries.
- Adhere to VA clinical standards, local policies, HIPAA and patient confidentiality requirements during all encounters.
- Coordinate with scheduling teams, case managers, and administrative staff to confirm appointments, manage cancellations/no-shows, and optimize travel routes.
- Maintain professional patient interactions, explain exam procedures clearly, address veteran concerns, and ensure patient comfort and safety during exams.
- Participate in quality assurance reviews, training sessions, and any required VA or contractor orientation programs.
- Report exam findings promptly and respond to documentation or clarification requests from VA adjudicators or clinical leads.
Required Skills
- Active, unrestricted state clinical license appropriate to the role (e.g., MD, DO, PA, NP, or other applicable licensure).
- Clinical examination skills relevant to the specialty area(s) being examined (e.g., primary care, psychiatry, neurology, orthopedics).
- Familiarity with VA C&P exam processes and Disability Benefits Questionnaires (DBQs) is strongly preferred.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills; ability to produce clear, concise, and well-documented exam reports.
- Strong time management, route planning, and organizational skills to manage travel schedules and caseloads efficiently.
- Comfortable using electronic medical records, mobile documentation tools, and standard office software; basic telehealth competence a plus.
- Professional demeanor, cultural sensitivity, and the ability to work independently in field settings.
- Reliable transportation, valid driver’s license, and willingness/ability to travel regularly and occasionally overnight.

Relevant Qualifications
- Minimum of 2 years of clinical practice experience in an appropriate specialty (primary care, psychiatry, neurology, orthopedics, etc.) preferred.
- Active and unrestricted medical or clinical license in the state(s) where exams will be performed.
- Board certification or specialty training preferred but not required depending on assignment.
- Ability to pass background checks, criminal history screening, and drug testing as required by VA or contractor policy.
- Up-to-date immunizations and TB screening per organizational and VA requirements.
- Valid driver’s license, reliable insured vehicle, and the ability to travel extensively within assigned geographic territory.
- Access to a smartphone or tablet and reliable internet connectivity for scheduling and documentation tasks.
- Willingness to complete VA onboarding, orientation, and any required competency assessments prior to performing exams.
