Unit Coordinator

Position Summary

Boone County Health Center (BCHC) is seeking a compassionate, organized, and detail-oriented Unit Coordinator to join our Room Care team. The Unit Coordinator provides essential administrative support to healthcare professionals while serving as a central point of communication for staff, patients, families, and visitors. This role helps ensure efficient coordination of patient care activities and smooth daily operations within the department.

Essential Responsibilities
Administrative & Patient Care Coordination

  • Provide administrative support within the department
  • Coordinate patient admissions, transfers, discharges, exams, and treatments
  • Schedule patient tests and procedures efficiently and accurately
  • Maintain electronic medical records with accuracy and confidentiality
  • Enter and update patient demographic and insurance information
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for incoming calls and inquiries
  • Facilitate communication between healthcare team members
  • Assist the charge nurse and support clinical staff as directed

Customer Service & Communication

  • Greet and direct patients, visitors, physicians, and staff in a courteous and professional manner
  • Provide accurate information and timely responses to questions and requests
  • Support patients, families, and healthcare team members with compassion and professionalism

Supplies & Equipment

  • Monitor and maintain department supplies and forms
  • Restock unit materials and coordinate supply orders as needed
  • Demonstrate proper knowledge and use of office and department equipment
  • Report equipment issues or malfunctions promptly

Additional Duties

  • Perform other duties as assigned to support departmental operations

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Previous clerical, administrative, or healthcare support experience preferred
  • Basic computer and office equipment skills required
  • Experience with electronic medical records preferred
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification preferred

Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered.

  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and comply with privacy regulations
  • Ability to interpret written and verbal instructions
  • Strong attention to detail and problem-solving abilities
  • Ability to work cooperatively in a fast-paced healthcare environment

Physical & Work Requirements

  • Frequent standing, walking, keyboarding, and fine motor activity
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 20 pounds occasionally
  • Regular attendance and flexibility for varied shifts required
  • Exposure to airborne communicable diseases and healthcare environments may occur
