Waivered Special Education Teacher (WST)
The Waivered Special Education Teacher (WST) is supervised by the Education Coordinator. This position is a Level 2 Teacher position with a stipend. Please note: This is an applied-for position for which interviews are conducted. Successful applicants are placed on a team/cohort with an opening, considering the applicant's preferences.
General Responsibilities:
- Role model for professionalism
- Role model for teaching ACE SA, TA, IT lesson plans
- Serves as waivered licensed teacher in classroom
- Serves as Case manager. On residential/ITT teams, may instead serve as Education Role, depending on team's needs
- Serves as Shift Manager (holds shift) in classroom on a refular basis or as a Back-up Core Shift Manager
- Serves as team's educational support when the Education Coordinator is out
- Answers questions
- Relays any educational concerns to Program Specialist (if immediate response needed) or Education Coordinator upon return
- Fosters generalization of skills from school to home/residence
- Communicates pertinent information to Ed Coord, Program Specialist and team members efficiently and effectively
- On residential and ITT teams, schedule includes one weekend day and one evening per week
Additional Responsibilities:
Additional responsibilities will include one or more of the following and is determined by the Program Specialist and Education Coordinator, based on the team's needs
- Assists with MCAS-alt data collection
- Conducts Core Skill Assessments
- Completes or reviews progress reports
- Prepares reports for Management by Objective (MBO) meetings
- Participates in other activities that promote student engagement and learning
Qualifications:
- Exceptional communication, teaching, and leadership skills
- Must be eligible for DESE Waiver for Educator License, which includes staff enrolled in the Simmons licensure program, including first-year students. Continued progress towards licensure is needed to maintain waiver in subsequent years [click to reveal website link]
- Flexibility may be needed to attend trainings at scheduled times
- Minimum of 6 months as a case manager and one year of employment at NECC
- As a general rule, WST and CSM roles are held by different people due to the unique needs of each
