Windows Engineer, Hybrid, West Orange

Job Overview:

The Server Engineer is responsible for supporting the server infrastructure in our assigned datacenters, data rooms and other areas as deemed necessary. They will schedule upgrades, installations and maintenance with customers and peers and participate in scheduled or non-scheduled off-hours infrastructure upgrades and emergencies. The Server Engineer will proactively monitor the computing infrastructure and provide any recommendations to management and peers for improvements, innovation or remediations, providing excellent customer service with compassion, empathy and a consistent supportive attitude.

Qualifications:

Required:

  • A minimum of 5 years' experience in Information Technology and Services in the related area.
  • Basic to intermediate knowledge of Windows Operating Systems both Server and Desktop and or Linux/Unix Operating Systems.
  • A good understanding and working knowledge of the VMware Hypervisor and related technologies
  • A good understanding of server hardware in a datacenter setting (Traditional, Converged and Hyper-converged computing platforms)
  • Server Engineer should have a basic understanding and ability to use scripting technologies for automation and reporting
  • Understanding of Information Technology Security best practices


Preferred:

  • Bachelor's degree preferred. Certification or equivalent may be substituted for a BA degree.
  • Experience in Healthcare field helpful, but not required
  • Windows Server and Desktop and/or Linux/Unix Operating Systems , VMware vSphere, Citrix, Active Directory, general networking concepts, powershell, Converged and Hyper-converged computing platforms


Scheduling Requirements:

  • Monday-Friday, normal business hours
  • Participate in mandatory on-call rotation in a 24x7 computing environment


Essential Functions:

  • Monitor problem ticket queues and resolve tickets in a timely manner according to the defined SLAs
  • Participate in monthly security patching for computing environment
  • Troubleshoot infrastructure and related technologies by reviewing logs and error messages
  • Troubleshoot with peers and customers on application related issues. Functions as an escalation point for application admins and second level support in troubleshooting complex system issues.
  • Update Operating Systems (Windows, Linux/Unix)
  • Assist Vendors, Customers and Peers with remote access needs
  • Follow and execute defined runbooks and documentation for
  • Disaster recovery events
  • System Decommissions
  • Infrastructure installs
  • Application patching
  • Monitor infrastructure via monitoring toolsets
  • Review Infrastructure and Application Architecture documentation and workflows to gain a broad understanding
  • Follow defined Change Management policies and procedures
  • Attend daily, weekly and monthly team meetings
  • Attend project or troubleshooting calls to address issues or tasks
  • Understanding of Enterprise Networks
