Remote Professional Coding Supervisor


This is a Remote Professional Coding Supervisor Position.

This position is responsible for complex analysis and development of all systems associated with the, Clinic Coding, Ancillary Coding and Coding Float Units. Reviews current status of clinical system applications and aligns with clinical workflows and processes. Prepares recommendations for system improvements. Identifies and recommends technical and procedural solutions to improve integration and effectiveness of various functions, clinical applications, and new releases. Triages work and issues to address business need. This position requires a high level of independence, creativity, analytical judgment, organization and priority setting abilities as well as a comprehensive knowledge of Medi-Cal, Medicare and other third-party payer program requirements, billing codes, diagnosis codes and medical terminology. This position includes unit operations, human resource management, system/process design, report development, problem resolution and project management. The position supports the clinical enterprise, and clinicians/doctors.


· Manages Coding Unit operations; distributes workflow related to chart documentation review, data collection, data aggregation, analysis and displays to demonstrate the quality and appropriateness of clinical documentation.

· Recommends new policies and procedures or revisions to existing coding/documentation policies and procedures as appropriate based on changes to laws, regulations, and policies and procedures to help support the effectiveness of the Health Information Management Department.

· Maintains daily/weekly status of direct report activities to ensure timely completion of all work assigned to Clinic Coding Unit staff.

· Develop and maintain guidelines for prioritizing work activities, evaluating effectiveness and modifying activities as needed.

· Experience with coding and/or auditing in a Healthcare environment for hospital and/or professional fee services for multi-specialty departments.

· Experience with ICD-10 diagnosis, ICD-10 procedures, HCPCS level I and II codes, and CPT coding.

· Experience with Epic application, EpicCare, Epic Resolute preferred; Epic Certification preferred.

· Must be self-directed and able to work autonomously in a professional and productive manner.

· Establishes departmental goals and objectives, functions with autonomy. Manages the accountability and stewardship of human, financial, and often physical resources in compliance with departmental and organizational goals and objectives.

· Provides guidance to subordinates to accomplish objectives and achieve goals in accordance with established policies

· Recognized leader and subject matter expert of oneor more clinical applications. Provides leadership and coordinates support for associated interfaces and systems.

· Serve as Epic Subject Matter Expert with responsibility for planning, coordinating, testing and leading Epic IT.

· Develops Standard Operating Procedures across streams of work to facilitate improvements. Advocates for change and innovation.

· Responsible for the leadership, and management of the independent work performed by the Clinic Coding staff.

· Act as a high level resource to other Health System departments across organizational lines, developing excellent rapport and working relationships with all levels of leadership, management, faculty and staff in matters involving proper application of coding guidelines and procedures.

· Perform other tasks as assigned by Manager.

· High school diploma or equivalent required.

· Requires one of the following coding credentials: Certified Coding Specialist - Physician Based (CCS-P) with coding experience.

· One or more of the following are preferred, but not required, CPC, CPC-H, and CCS.
